London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has recently announced that it is to make around 140 people redundant in Coventry. The company was the first to develop an electric black cab to be used in London. In April 2022, the number of these cabs reached 5,000 that were being driven around the streets of London.

The business was originally called the London Taxi Company but was renamed the London Electric Vehicle Company some time later.

Apparently, like a lot of businesses, the Coronavirus pandemic has had a negative impact on the business.

The company also produce electric commercial vehicles.

Over the years, the range that electric vehicles are able to do between charging up has increased and let us hope that the range will increase further. Also, the number of electric charging points has gone up over the years but let us also hope that the number of such points continues to grow to deal with a larger number of electric vehicles.

Another interesting statistic is that in May 2022 some 7,000 electric taxis had been sold throughout the world by LEVC.

Obviously it is to be hoped that the company has a bright future as more and more electric vehicles appear on our roads here in the UK and around the world.

Although electric vehicles usually involve a greater capital outlay than the conventional petrol or diesel fuelled vehicles it is to be hoped that the saving on normal fuel costs will outweigh the increased cost of an electric vehicle. It goes without saying that electric vehicles are obviously here to stay as governments around the world are keen to lower carbon emissions.
