As a taxi driver you will be faced with having to make a decision as to whether you are going to work on New Year’s Eve and/or New Year’s Day. The main reason for what you decide to do is almost certainly going to be a financial one as it probably is for many things.

As you well know, there are an awful lot of people who go out on New Years Eve to bring in the New Year whether it is to a pub, restaurant, club or a friend or family member’s house to attend a party. Potentially, it could be quite a lucrative time with the prospect of earning more money in fares and tips. After all, it is a time when your passengers are possibly going to feel more generous than normal and give you a large tip. It is also a period when you may be picking up and dropping off more passengers than a normal evening.

There will also be a lot of people who decide to eat out on New Year’s Day in the likes of a hotel, pub or restaurant. Again, you should find you earn more in tips than normal.

On the down side, you may be faced with having to pick up passengers who are, shall we say, a little worse for wear due to having one drink too many. What you want to try and avoid is to pick up such passengers who become rather aggressive or are sick in your taxi. If the latter happens, it may mean you have to take your taxi off the road for the rest of the evening or day resulting in a lower income at what should be a financially lucrative festive period.

As a taxi driver, you will have to make sure that you have a full tank of fuel especially if you are working in remote locations as there will be fewer petrol stations open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. After all, you cannot afford to run out of petrol or diesel.

Who knows what the weather will be like but be prepared in case there is any snow or ice. Make sure that you carry a spade, a warm and waterproof coat, a pair of willies, something to eat such as a chocolate bar or two and a warm drink in a flask. Carry things like an ice scrapper, a torch, de-icer.

However, if you are in the financial position of not needing to work in your taxi over the New Year period then we hope that you do have a lovely time.
