If you are a taxi driver in the UK who is considering swapping his or her petrol or diesel fuelled taxi for a new electric taxi then you may find it of interest to read that, in the last few days, the government has announced that it is to extend the Plug-in Taxi Grant until April 2025 enabling taxi drivers to get £6,000 when purchasing a new electric taxi.

You may find it of interest to read that since 2017 which is when the Plug-in Taxi Grant scheme was put in place in excess of £50 million of financial support has been provided to fund part of the purchase price of a green taxi. This has resulted in over 9,000 new green taxis being purchased.

Another interesting statistic is that in excess of 54% of licensed taxis in London are electric cabs. That is a total of 8,299 London taxis. Throughout the UK, 12% of taxis are potentially zero emission. We are sure that you will agree progress is being made when it comes to the number of electric taxis on roads in the UK.

Since 2011, in excess of £1.9 billion of grant monies has been provided towards the purchase of in excess of 350,000 green cars.

You may be aware that there has been criticism about the low numbers of electric charging points throughout the UK. Apparently, there are in excess of 55,000 public charging points for electric vehicles in the UK with numbers having gone up by 465 in the last 12 months. Let us hope that a satisfactory number of electric vehicle charging points appear on the scene to cope with demand.

It would be interesting to know from established taxi drivers who have made the switch from diesel or petrol fuelled taxis to electric taxis how cist effective the switch is proving to be or not for that matter.

We will continue to keep our readers updated periodically with regard to the success or otherwise of electric taxis.
