Taxi drivers have seen an increase in the cost of keeping their vehicles on the road – in particular due to the increase in the cost of putting petrol or diesel in their vehicles although it has to be said that in the last 2 or 3 weeks fuel prices have been coming down. Nevertheless it is an additional expense that taxi drivers could do without especially as it is probably one of the biggest expenses they have.
Well, many taxi drivers in different parts of the UK have for quite some time been recommending that taxi fares increase to help mitigate their increased expenditure. In some areas fares have gone up but in others they haven’t. However, you only have to look on the likes of Google News to read a number of news articles where fare increases have either been put in place or are going to be in some locations.
This will no doubt come as welcome news to many of those taxi drivers as it will hopefully result in a lot of them continuing to work as a taxi driver as some were considering calling it a day and looking for alternative work.
Of course, it is going to be interesting to see the impact this has on customers using a taxi whether it is to get to work in a train strike or catch a taxi to and from a social event. After all, the UK is going through an extremely difficult financial period at the present time with utility bills increasing and mortgage and rent payments rising significantly for some people. This may result in a lot of people having to cut back on the likes of going out for dinner or to go to the theatre when they may have previously used the services of a taxi firm. Now they may decide to use their own cars for such trips.
